Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave treatment uses acoustic pressure waves to enhance the body’s natural healing process.

About

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses low energy acoustic wave pulsations to treat injuries. It is applied directly to the affected area through the skin using a gel medium.

Body Works is the sole provider of shockwave therapy in Charlottetown and one of only two clinics offering this service on PEI. We offer this service at both of our Charlottetown locations.

  • Plantar fasciitis

You will feel some discomfort in the area where the therapy is applied.

You may also experience mild swelling and numbness, as well as slight bruising or unusual sensations, to the treated area. However, these effects should be temporary and resolve as the area heals.

How many treatments are needed?

The beneficial effects of shockwave therapy are often experienced after only 1 or 2 treatments.

Typically, patients will undergo six treatments spaced 5-10 days apart.

If shockwave is appropriate for you, your provider will perform the treatment during your regular physio/chiro appointment at no additional cost.
