Recovery

Recovery from injury is a gradual process. It’s important to pace yourself and set realistic expectations. One of the most reliable indicators of rehab success is commitment.

About

Whether you are recovering from surgery or an injury, our healthcare professionals can provide you with treatment and, depending on the nature and severity of the injury, a successful recovery and return to activity is a very real possibility.

All three of our core services can form part of your rehabilitation treatment. If you are unsure where to begin, book an initial consultation with any of our healthcare providers and they will be able to discuss a comprehensive recovery plan.

Chiropractic treatment focuses on the ways the body can heal itself. By adjusting misalignments in the spine, we can help you manage your pain during recovery and learn to move more efficiently, reducing the chances of suffering a similar injury in the future.

Chiropractic

Massage therapy involves the manipulation of soft tissues, including muscles, tendons, and ligaments, which help release tension. Massage therapy can also improve blood and lymph circulation, helping to reduce swelling and promote a faster recovery.

Physiotherapy focuses on alleviating pain, improving mobility, and restoring physical function through manual therapies, targeted exercises and other modalities.

01

How long does recovery take?

The length of time that it takes to recover from an injury varies depending on the injury, as well as the person! Other variables such as activity level, nutrition, and adherence to the prescribed rehabilitation treatment program will also influence the rehabilitation timeline.

Generally, soft tissue injuries, like strains and sprains, can take weeks to a few months to heal, while more severe injuries may require several months.

02

How soon should you start injury recovery?

In most cases, physical therapy can be initiated right away after an injury.

If you have had a surgery such as a hip or knee replacement, rotator cuff repair, ACL repair or surgical fracture fixation, you may need a little bit of healing time before you start your physical therapy program. In this case your surgeon will advise when you should start seeing a physiotherapist.

What can I do to prevent future injuries?

  • Sufficient warm-up and cool-down time.

  • Staying hydrated and sticking to a well-balanced diet.

  • Avoiding playing when overly exhausted.

  • Ensuring you have the right equipment for the sports you participate in.

  • Recognizing the signs of an injury and treating it promptly – first with RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) and follow up with professional care if not improved within 48 hours.

04

Should I see a chiropractor, physiotherapist or massage therapist?

If you are not sure where to start, book an initial consultation with any of our healthcare providers.

Your provider will do an assessment of your injury and advise if you should be seeking a different type of treatment. Our therapies often complement each other, so they may recommend you use multiple forms of therapy to enhance your recovery.
